I was driving with Dad coming back from Lahey. A truck carrying a bunch of johnny on the spots pulled in front of us. Daddy made a comment about the truck, and I said that I bet they made good money. I know that the guy that pumps the septic systems in North Reading makes good money. hHe said of course they do ,and I said I would not want that job he said neither would I.
And then he told me a story about a stinky job he would never want to have
There was a man whose job it was in the Ireland of his childhood, to pick up the dead animals from a farm or wherever the animal expired and bring them whatever it is to bring dead animals. Cows, sheep, goats, pigs, you get the idea.
He passed his man one day and he was eating his lunch off the back of a dead beast that apparently stunk to high heaven. He just kind of chuckled to himself and said that the guy had just gotten so used to the smell that didn’t bother to do such a thing.
Starting to think I can recognize horrified chuckle when I hear it.
